Support player T1 Keria has tested positive for COVID-19, the highly contagious respiratory illness caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
Following the diagnosis, Ryu “Keria” Min-seok will undergo quarantine and receive treatment at T1’s accommodations.
The esports organization has reassured fans that the pro player will receive ample rest and necessary support for a speedy recovery.
Due to Keria’s isolation, it has been confirmed that he will be unable to attend the LCK Awards 2023 scheduled for December 13 in Seoul, where he is nominated for categories Support of the Year and Player of the Year.
T1 members, including Choi “Zeus” Woo-je, Mun “Oner” Hyeon-jun, Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, and Lee “Gumayusi” Min-hyeong, along with coach Kim “Roach” Kang-hee, have shown no symptoms and are reported to be in good health, as stated in the organization’s official announcement.
The team recently returned from Berlin, Germany, after participating in the Red Bull League of Its Own showmatch, where they faced off against League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) teams Team Heretics, Karmine Corp, and G2 Esports.
With Keria testing positive for COVID-19, Gumayusi stands as the sole member from T1’s 2023 player roster who has not contracted the virus.
Keria has served as T1’s support since 2020, maintaining his position on the main roster for three consecutive years, with a recent contract renewal with the esports organization.
Notably, he is the first support to secure the LCK Regular Season MVP award and has gained recognition for playing unconventional support picks like Caitlyn, Kalista, and Varus in LCK. He also played a crucial role in helping T1 claim their fourth championship trophy at Worlds 2023.
Beyond his accomplishments on LCK and LoL Esports stages, Keria, alongside Faker, achieved a gold medal at the Asian Games 2022 in the League of Legends esports category.
COVID-19 primarily spreads through respiratory droplets from coughing, sneezing, or talking, and individuals can contract the virus by inhaling these droplets or touching contaminated surfaces and then their face. Close contact with an infected person is also a potential means of transmission.
COVID-19 symptoms range from mild to severe, including fever, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, and loss of taste or smell.
